Sustainability with Setter Play
- Local supply chain, lower carbon. Around 70% of our suppliers are within 10 miles of our Bedfordshire workshop, which not only minimises our carbon footprint, but also keeps us plugged into and supporting our local economy. We recruit locally and run a cycle-to-work scheme to cut travel emissions.
- Responsibly sourced timber. Our logs are FSC-certified from sustainably managed forests, and timber offcuts are reused in schools as benches and planting beds.
- Recycled and recyclable surfacing. Our bonded rubber mulch is made from recycled forklift tyres, and our wet pour (EPDM), rubber mulch and artificial grass can all be recycled at end of life. We can arrange that collection for customers.
- Recycled HDPE. Our HDPE supplier recycles 99% of its material, and we cancollect old panels for recycling when we install new ones.
- Certified partners. Our mild steel supplier meets ISO 14001:2015 and our stainless supplier is ISO 9001 certified. Our tarmac comes from Tarmac, which uses 15% recycled asphalt and recycles 99% of its operational waste.
- Built to last, repair and refurbish. We repair play equipment, surfacing and ropes, and we refurbish climbing frames and canopies. Our rope fixings are redesigned so ropes can be easily removed for repair or replacement.
- Design out waste. We calculate the best use of raw materials, have polycarbonate cut to size, and take bulk deliveries where possible to reduce material waste and transport.
- Strict waste hierarchy. We prevent and reduce waste first, then reuse, recycle, recover, and use landfill only as a last resort. Waste is segregated, handled by licensed carriers, and backed by Waste Transfer Notes kept for at least two years. We produce no hazardous waste.
- Efficient operations. Our office practices cut energy, water and paper use with a number of different initiatives, which whilst alone are small, add up! Our policies include; double-sided printing, “don’t print” email footers, switching off lights and equipment, lower thermostat settings, and buying recycled, biodegradable supplies.
- Accountable and reviewed. We treat environmental legislation as the minimum standard. All staff are trained on the policy, the Business Manager monitors it, The Building Safety Group inspects our compliance, and we review progress annually.
