Why we do what we do

Setter Play is a family-run business originating in 1997, when Jonathan used his carpentry skills to build his 4-year old son Aleks a climbing frame in their back garden, to burn his energy in a productive way rather than bouncing off the walls! And over the last 30 years Setter has gone from a one-man operation in a converted farm unit in Hertfordshire, building small climbers for local schools, to operating two factories just south of Bedford and proudly building projects from Land’s End to John O’Groats (literally!).

Some quick maths tells us that we have had well over one million children play on our play equipment, and we are hugely proud not only of the fun that we have provided for generations of kids, but also for the developmental benefits and improvements in health that our equipment has provided over the past three decades.

At Setter we pride ourselves not only building exciting and engaging play areas, but also thinking deeply about the benefits that they present local children, making sure to tailor our designs to customer requirements and doing our utmost to provide spaces for children to grow through play. Setter continues to be a family run enterprise, with Aleks putting all his energy into designing and delivering fantastic play spaces, and we look forward to the next 30 years+!
